Kitchen Cabinets, and Custom Cabinetry

How To Build Your Own Kitchen Cabinets

If you have shopped around for kitchen cabinets recently, then you realize how expensive they can be. The reason updating your kitchen can be so expensive is because the cost of the cabinets is not cheap. In fact, the expense involved with purchasing new cabinets can be one of the most costly parts of a home remodel. There is an alternative. You can always make cabinets on your own. You do not have to be a carpenter, however, you do need the ability to follow instructions.

To begin with, you will build the carcass for your kitchen cabinets. You will determine how tall, wide and deep you want your cabinets to be. When you are fastening together pieces of the carcass, make sure that you use wood glue and staples.

After you have built the carcass, you will want to add a face frame. The most important part of the frame is that the surface is smooth, so you might have to do some sanding.

Next, you will create the doors. Measuring is essential during this stage of the process because you do not want to end up with doors that are not the right size. Also, make sure that you invest in good hinges and apply them properly to your cabinets.

Lastly, you will most likely want to add shelving inside your cabinets and drawers to certain areas of your cabinets. This is the perfect way to finish off your cabinets and ensure that they are user-friendly and will hold all that you desire them to hold.
