Whether you buy a vanity pre made or buy cabinets and custom make them into your own idea of a vanity; the options and designs are as far reaching as your imagination.
Good Old Home Depot
The old fashioned idea of a vanity is more a furniture set than it is a seat at the bathroom counter. A big round mirror with a dresser type stand; a table/desk setting in the middle and a stool upon which to sit is the traditional picture of old school vanities. Unfortunately, the only way to enjoy a custom piece of furniture like that in your room is to make one (or have one custom built for you). Building a vanity for your bathroom from existing sinks, fixtures, counters, cabinets and mirrors found at Home Depot or other do-it-yourselfer hardware stores is also doable.
Building Your Own Bathroom Vanity
There are a number of steps to building your very own bathroom vanity: decide upon the area in which you want to build and take measurements; custom cut your cabinets; prepare, then stain your wooden cabinets; don’t forget the polyurethane after staining; time to install the lower cabinets; decide upon a counter top design and lay it; time to install the upper cabinets; you will want to make a lighting apron; now is the time to put all the doors onto the cabinets; and finally, pick up some complimentary lighting and install it.
Presto! The new makeup vanity you wanted. Now wasn’t that easy?
